Today, it’s all about living among skyscrapers, city lights, and traffic jams. When shtf or disaster strikes, will living in the city become an advantage, or will it be a curse? considering that you’re here reading this, you’d like to find the answer to that, too. Here’s what you need to know about urban
survival
and all that comes with it:.
So you’re a wilderness survival expert. But do you have the necessary urban survival skills? the truth is, that disaster can strike anywhere, anytime. If you have to survive, you need to consider the worst-case scenario of an organized urban landscape plunging into chaos. Even if you don’t live in a city, chances are that you visit every day for work. With 55. 7 percent of the world population living in cities, this is where the struggle for survival will be at its peak. The truth is, not everyone has the luxury of heading out for a wilderness retreat to survive an emergency .
Just imagine it. You’re in a city that just experienced a devastating disaster. Help might not be coming for weeks. You can see the desperation growing in the people around you… some of them might have lost their homes, others have no access to clean drinking water now that the taps stopped working. Others have run out of food and are wondering how they’ll feed their families. There are metal trash cans everywhere with fires burning in them… just kidding. That’s probably just something from the movies. While the truth of surviving in an urban shtf environment is probably less exciting and more mundane than what’s shown in the movies, the dangers of an urban survival situation are very real, and your ability to make it out of this kind of situation will rely on your level of preparation and any survival skills you’ve managed to hone.
The list isn’t by far exhaustive but it should give you some fantastic ideas on what to do when shtf if you’re trapped in a town or a city. Note: i’ve done my best to only include tips that are relevant to urban scenarios that are not always mentioned in general/rural survival articles.
What Is Urban Survival?
In survival and prepper communities, there is a lot of talk about what gear you need to “bug out” in the wild.
But the truth is that, in many disaster situations, you are probably better staying put, aka “bugging in” or “hunkering down. ”for these situations, you will need to have urban survival gear. When it comes to preparing for a survival situation, any of us need to plan for urban survival. Based on where most of us live these days, you’re more likely to need to put your survival skills into practice in an urban setting than anywhere else. As a man who likes to plan for these worst-case scenarios, the safety of my family comes first. However, i also know that comfort is going to be important to keep my family’s mental state healthy. And i know that i will have to work with what is available to me. In an urban setting, other people are going to be scavenging for all that they can find as well.
